Let's talk about Pidgin and Creole Language
Discussion
A.
Introduction
v Lingua Franca
Lingua franca (Latin
meaning “Language of the nation of the Franks”) is a linguistic term meaning
“language of instruction’’ or Language Association” somewhere where the are
speakers of different languages.
Lingua franca has two
other action, namely:
1. Worn
only on temporary relations with limited objectives, in particular the trade.
2. Do
not have the structure of a down right gramatic steady and perhaps the presence
of the spaces of words.
Example of lingua
franca very much and there is on every continent. The examples that is very
clear at the moment is English, which is the lingua franca international for
business, science, technology, and aviation
v Pidgin Language
Pidgin is a language
that has no native speakers. Pidgin developed as a mean communication between
people do not have the same language. Pidgin was original developed in a narrow
function. Those who use pidgin also have other languages as well, so an
additional language is pidgin used for specific purpose such as in the trade or
administration or communication. Besides its own Pidgin Sociolinguistics is
mixing two or more languages that can be understood in certain groups. The
words of this particular group can be an organization, a gang, the assembly or
otherwise.
Pidgin was created from
business people who have different language, becuase pidgin evolved to cater to
a verry narrow range of a limited domain, then user pidgins this tend to
simplify the structure and used the less vocabulary. Pidin words generally do
not have inflection (grammar or speech changes) to mark. An example in English,
plural words or time (tenses) verb is not used.
Simplification of
pidgin look once on aspects of grammar and memorize. Pidgin does not have
grammatical gender system of noun and does not have have the final approval of
the noun-verb. Time and aspect expressed with words than with a separate
suffix. Pidgin tends to reduce cue grammar. This allow the speakers to learn
and use it, even though it gives ‘overload’ in the audience.
Example
cases.
About the trade: for
example ( I Take from Indonesia). hawkers in the area Tanah Lot speak with foreign tourist in English.
English language used as a base and the way to speaks are adapted with
Indonesia’s tounge, for example.
a. Peri
cip (very cheap) = very cheap
b. Paip
(five) = five
c. Mases
(By the mai) = message
d. Tosen
= thousand
e. Many
many different with art shop (the price is much different from the price given
in the art shop) = the price is a lot different from at.
The
second example of Pidgin cases.
There are four people
from Korea, france Indonesia and Mexio. They only speak their own language
(Only that Language that they knew). They want to communicate but they don’t
understand each other, because that problem they want to make their
conversation, so they create a new code (Pidgin Language) that can make them
understand each other for communication in which they mix all languages and
they make it simple, in this case France is dominant language they have created
as new pidgin. But Listen! People around them cannot uderstand what do they
speak because it’s a pidgin language that only they use to speak and understand
in a group.
Why france is dominant?
Because the nature of this pidgin is one language will be very dominant
depending on who often speak or communicate with mother tongue (region)
v Reason for pidgins to arise
There are various
reasons for pidgin to arise and one reason is that the pidgin do not have a
common language to communicate, therefore the need for communication leads them
to create a pidgin.
v Creole Language
In contrats with
pidgin, Creole is formed when Pidgin from a different language that is the
language of the first of the new generation. In other words, that generation
with simultaneous use of Creole as a mother tongue. That generation being
native speakers of creole that. If pidgin is a simple communication language
with no grammar and phonetics, creole is a language which gives completeness on
grammar, meaning and function levels.
According to Holmes
(Wardhaugh, 2010:59) says that ‘A creole is pidgin which has expended in
structure and vocabulary to express the range of meaning and serve the range of
function required on a first language.
Creole will appear when
pidgins became the mother tongue. Brown and Attardo (2000:117) explained that
the oidgin used in certain situations. If pidgin isn’t useful anymore, then it
will be gone. Conversely, if pidgin is useful, then it will become the lingua
franca and in the process will be the language natively and ultimately become a
creole (the mother tongue)
For
the example from four people who from Kores,
Indonesia, France and Mexico who was making a pidgin language and from here we
pick 2 people as example to make what does creole means.
And a person from Korea
is a woman and another from Indonesia is a men. They fell in love and go
married. And after time is walking on, they have a kid. And their kid is
growing up, automatically thier kid speaks the pidgin now too but the pidgin
that they speak it as a first language, so it’s not pidgin anymore it’s a
creole or naitve speaker that have first language.
The
second example to make it clear in short.
For example, when
a man and woman get married and they
have different languages. Later, it appeared that pidgins become one on the
language of a shared house and became the mother tongue to their children and
the mother tongue that is the first language for the kid that is the called
‘CREOLE’

The
Contact Pidgin and Creole
v The Different between Pidgin and
Creole
-
Pidgin are non-native lingua francas or no
native speaker.
-
Pidgin language is arise quickly for
functional communication and compromise between 2 or more languages.
-
Simple vocabulary from “dominat” groups
language
-
Simplified grammar of native language
And
for the creole
-
Creole have native speakers
-
Usually srarts as a pidgin
-
Become children’s native speaker
v Pidgin and Creole have in common
Pidgin
and creole are new languages that develop when speakers of different language
come into contact with each other and have a need to communicate.
v Pidgin and creole are basically has
the following characteristics:
-
The structure of clauses that are not
complete
-
The reduction and removal of syllables,
or words
-
Reduction of the consonant group
-
The use of the basic vocal letters (a,
e, i,o,u)
-
There are no tones, such as those in
Africa Asian languages
-
The use of a separate word for tensis
indicated, usually bring up the verd.
-
Usage of reduplication to explain the
prular, superlative, and parts of another with the intenation of speech
expresses the concept.
-
A lack of morphophonemic varition.
The
underlying presence of pidgin are:
-
The tendency of contacts from a group of
people whose language is different.
-
The need to communicate between them.
v The function of Pidgin and Creole
As
an alternative, pidgin can become a lingua franca which is very useful because
it can be used by the person who has the distinction of speaking with different
tribes. In a multilingual language community, parents could simply use a pidgin
language in general and throughout the day, get it on the market, in offices
and on public transport which can also be used as an everday language used at
home. In this case, the children often require that languae as their first
language as their first language and this will be developed into a creole
language.
